Herndon, Va., September 4, 2019 – ST Engineering iDirect, a company of ST Engineering North America, today announced that IP Access International will integrate the iDirect iQ 200 Board and the latest Evolution® software release, iDX 4.1.3, into its HARRIER terminal, a portable and hybrid communications solution for first responders. The iQ 200 Board will enable the HARRIER solution to achieve higher throughput and greater efficiency, with Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) services run on Layer 2 over Satellite (L2oS).
The HARRIER terminal’s portability and capability make it an ideal solution for first response teams who need to establish communications for relief efforts at disaster sites quickly and without extensive training. With the iQ 200 Board, IP Access will also substantially increase the amount of space available for other integrated devices within the HARRIER terminal due to the iQ 200’s extremely small footprint. The L2oS advancement also allows for native IPv6 support, which is increasingly becoming a requirement.
“We chose to upgrade our HARRIER solution with the iDirect iQ 200 Board because of its superior throughput and efficiency offerings,” said Bill Pitz, Chief Technical Officer, IP Access International. “First response teams need the most powerful but cost-effective solution they can carry. Having the iQ 200 Board teamed up with the IP Access Select satellite network, first response teams can rest assured they have reliable communications no matter where they go.”
“IP Access has been at the forefront of providing satellite solutions for first response teams for two decades,” said Darren Ludington, Regional Vice President, Americas, ST Engineering iDirect. “Quick response from reliable communications translates into lives saved. We are honored to work with IP Access to create a tool that builds a lifeline between local communities and first response teams, over satellite or cellular networks.”
The iQ 200 board can operate in either DVB-S2 or DVB-S2X standards with high return channel capabilities that can be easily upgraded over the air to add throughput and features, depending on customer needs. This versatile remote also features iDirect’s highly differentiated bandwidth management and prioritization technology, ensuring terrestrial-grade link quality and L2oS functionality that provide transparent and flexible access. When combined with the newly released Evolution 4.1.3 software, the iQ 200 can achieve industry-leading upstream data rates up to 40 Mbps with 16QAM. On the downstream, the iQ Series remotes support DVB-S2 as well as DVB-S2X up to 256APSK MODCOD (modulation and forward error correction or FEC of a link) pushing through puts to 200 Mbps and above.
